Things To Know About Golf Recruiting
When does the recruiting process start?
As soon as possible. Coaches begin to identify talented athletes early in their high school careers—sometimes before. In fact, in a recent survey, more than 65% of college coaches in the US prefer to start targeting prospects during the sophomore year or even earlier. This means that the advantage goes to student athletes who are active, informed and on schedule. You have to make sure college coaches know you’re out there and are interested to play at their college.
How do I get discovered?
College coaches scout based on verified information from neutral, independent sources like ACA. College coaches identify golfers using online tools and databases well before they attend high school golf tournaments Occasionally another golfer will catch their eye, but they are primarily there for the prospects they have already identified.
How do coaches evaluate international prospects?

The Internet is your best recruiting tool. College coaches don’t have time to attend international golf tournaments. The majority of them identify top prospects by watching video highlights that they request or receive from a trusted third party. This is what will convince a coach to consider you for the team.
Where am I qualified to play?
Your academic standing and test scores will play a major role in where you can play. The majority of golf scholarships are offered by schools that do not compete in the top division of the NCAA.
