Case study of an ACA student successfully transferring from community college to NCAA university

Winnie Hung started her journey from the community college team and excelled in both academics and sports. In her junior year, she joined the NCAA D2 Purdue University Northwest team.

Winnie Hung, a golfer from southern Taiwan, contacted ACA at the end of 2021. At the time, she had doubts about whether she could study abroad in the United States. She was not a student in the sports program, so she had to balance both golf and academics during high school. She could only practice golf in her spare time, which made her value her limited time available to train even more.

In early 2022, with her stable performance on the course and in the classroom, ACA secured a full academic and sports scholarship for her to join the women’s golf team at Iowa Western Community College (IWCC). At the time, the IWCC women’s golf team was the number one ranked program in the NJCAA — the best record in team history — with multiple players named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team.

During her time on the IWCC women’s golf team, Winnie interacted well with her teammates in a new country and performed excellently academically, achieving a GPA of 4.0. This was a bonus for her application as she applied to four-year colleges, as exceptional student-athletes are often recruited more aggressively by NCAA universities.

With the assistance of ACA, she received a generous scholarship offer from Purdue University Northwest (PNW) and formally signed with PNW at the end of 2023. She will start her junior year in the fall of 2024 and join the women’s golf team.

During her journey studying abroad in the United States, Winnie diligently excelled in her academics and improved her golf skills. Step by step, she achieved her goals and paved the way for a successful future. Best wishes to her!
